Future German purchases: 2001 has been such an outstanding vintage that we are in the process of snapping up as many rieslings as our cellar can hold. Frankly much of that will be destined for our own cellars as they are truly that heart-rendingly good. If you ever intend to have a Riesling (and being a perfect match for a holiday meal, a pox on you if you didn't answer "yes"), the 2001 vintage is certainly the one to buy. "Delicious" doesn't even begin to convey the pleasure wrought up in the tightly wound balance between brilliant acidity and a gorgeous honeyed character--truly, it's kinetic lingual art. Buy while they're still available.
