Wine Discovery Series The Wine Discovery Series is crafted to accommodate all levels of wine appreciation. Whether you've a budding curiosity about wine, or are a passionate devotee who simply doesn't have the wherewithal to peruse wine periodicals and haunt wine shops to find those gems that come and go so quickly, the Wine Discovery Series offers the best in current release wines.

Each month, we select our favorite 2 wines per series from among the oceans of wine through which we've sampled our way during our marathon tasting sessions. While we employ, of course, all the usual standards in rating the wines we taste, the selections we ultimately offer through our discovery series are distinguished by two critical factors:

Exuberance--does the wine joyously exude all the captivating charm that grape varietal possesses and the unfathomable essence of the soils from whence it sprung and the deft artistry of the winemaker's hand?

The "Yum" factor--wine has failed its calling if you're not left with the lingering sensation of "yum" floating somewhere between your palate and your soul. Wines that are "Not Yum", "Very Not Yum", or "Fleh!" are destined for the spit bucket right quick.

Obviously, we all have our personal favorite grape varietals and styles of winemaking, and so not every wine we offer will be that scintillating moment of your existence during which certain universal truths become clear. (Besides, it makes your significant other jealous when the scintillating moment comes in a bottle and isn’t, in fact, that weekend you spent together in Mendocino) Whether any of these offerings is that elusive wine you’ve only forlornly, desperately hoped possible—well, we leave that to your taste buds and heart to decide. Our aim is to offer you wines that continually set the bar higher, and that exceed the expectation of your former life, deprived of the true nectar offered by the vines.

We hope that via this expansive approach to a wide variety of wine, you’ll find yourself better able to enunciate those elements which you find pleasurable and delicious. If you become able to express to the sommelier or local wine merchant exactly what it is that would perfectly complement your mood and your fabulous or modest repast, we’d feel righteously gratified and pour ourselves an extra helping at the next staff tasting. So. Is it that you know that you like wine, and have a basic understanding of things, but all the bottles on the shelf look pretty much the same when you peruse them in the liquor aisle? Would you like to expand your cellar beyond just a few merlots and chardonnays? Or is it that you're looking for something that's delectably lip-smacking, won't break the bank, and will flawlessly complement whatever you happen to whip up in the kitchen that night?

Each month, we seek out the best value wines extant and offer them to you with copious notes about the wine, the varietal, the winery, the region, or whatever else seems to pique our interest when we're putting together our monthly offerings. Like all of our wines, we set no limitations on the grape varietal or region from which it comes, so your monthly package may include a mouth-watering Aussie shiraz and a semillon or perhaps a Super Tuscan and an ancient heritage varietal from sun-baked vineyards in Italy. Some of these will be from smaller wineries on the rise, others will be from established wine powerhouses--what binds them together is the sensual beauty that they offer by the glass. A sense of adventure and an open mind are not necessarily required to start our series, but we are certain that these will develop with each monthly delivery. This is an educational journey for wine neophyte and wine lover alike.

Premium Series $59.99 per month:

We step it up a notch here. The Premium Series wines tread on the ground of stellar ratings from the likes of Wine Spectator and Robert Parker. These are wines for that special occasion, wines that you could justifiably bring with you to the restaurant (if legal in your state). If you're looking for a monthly delivery of gems, you've got the right spot.

Every month, we will deliver wines that garner general acclaim and win the admiration of our staff along with our wine tasting notes, thoughts on the winery, the region, and, as with the Value Series, whatever else happens to claim our interest in the course of luxuriating in these wines. Aside from our strict requirement of Exuberance and high Yum Factor, there are no restrictions as to what we select. Monthly offerings may include a killer Cabernet sauvignon from Santa Barbara and a hedonistic viognier from Monterey or a pair of refined but wowing Chateauneuf-du-Papes. These are wines that you deserve to be drinking.
